We began the Star Life Literary Magazine in order to create a voice for unpublished writers in Seattle on controversial subjects. Each quarter, we will change the theme to another controversial subject that we feel is too one sided in literature and in the press.

This quarter’s theme is “Drugs”. Take any side in this theme. Pull it apart and put it back together again.

The current public attitude is that drugs are bad, but which drugs are bad? How is Kava Kava worse than Asprin? What happens when Prozak starts killing people? Are illegal drugs really as dangerous as we are told? Maybe they are. What makes them dangerous? Not being regulated? Is medicine as safe as we think?

We are looking for intelligent, thought-provoking submissions; for example, legalization arguments for and against, the life of a drug, medication’s ramifications, and/or stories of illegal drug abusers. Anything goes as long as it is creative and original.

We will accept fiction and non-fiction in the form of short stories, poetry, essays, and comics.

The magazine will be published online and distributed around Seattle. Those chosen to be published will have a short bio written about them and receive a copy of the magazine.

Anyone who is interested can submit their unpublished work online at starlifezine@yahoo.com or in person at Star Life on the Oasis Café on 50th and University. The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2006.

We look forward to receiving your work. Now, start writing!
